What is your calling?
To many, that is a very difficult question to answer. We search and search and search for an answer, but can’t seem to be able to figure it out. We wait and wait and wait for God to spell it out in the clouds or surprise us with an angelic messenger, but nothing seems to happen. No doubt, God shows up in awesome ways in different situations, but the searching and waiting often times is the general experience.
There is great news, though! The phone already rang and there is a message waiting on voicemail for you. You have been called. We all have been called and Jesus is the caller! Here are just three brief and important points that Jesus left on the voicemail for you. (Matthew 22:37-39 & 28:19)
1. There is nothing more important in this world for you to do than to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Without loving and knowing Him personally, all is counted as loss. All else is ultimately, in the end, pointless. There is no satisfaction, at least lasting satisfaction, outside of intimacy with Him.
2. As you are loving on God with all you’ve got and knowing Him as intimately and personally as possible, you are to love those around you as much as you love yourself — and I know you really, really love yourself! You desire to be loved, cared for, happy, and nurtured — so start providing that value to others!
3. Because you love the Lord with all your heart and because you love the people around you as yourself, go out and tell them the Good News. Teach them to live full and satisfied lives in Him and in all His ways. Set their souls free in the love and peace of all that God offers!
If you are a follower of Jesus, I’m sure you’ve heard these three points many times over the years — whether through church or through personal Bible study. I definitely have. I’m also sure that you respect all three points and believe they are great things, but you are looking for a deeper calling. You are looking for a specific and unique calling. If this is true, I once again have great news!
We’ve all received the call above, but what is our personal calling? We are all unique and we all have various passions. Art, food, fitness, travel, business, and sports are just a few examples of the varying passions we harbour within ourselves. All we have to do is look at our unique talents and personality and decide how we can best fulfill the call we’ve all received in our own unique ways.
This is when we begin to find our personal calling.
